California Wing Cadet Competition

May 10, 2024, 12:00 PM - May 12, 2024, 5:00 PM (America/Chicago)

Lt Col Michael Samuel ( michael.samuel@cawgcap.org )
Camp San Luis Obispo

The 2024 California Wing Cadet Competition will take place 10-12 May at Camp San Luis Obispo. Arrival is 10 May, the events are on 11 May, and awards and departure is 12 May. The top two teams will represent the California Wing at the PCR Cadet Competition at March Air Reserve Base 30 Aug – 2 Sep 24 and there will not be a National Cadet Competition this year.

Cadet Competition gives cadets an opportunity to demonstrate their excellence in a wide range of activities in the arenas of leadership, aerospace, fitness, and character.  During the competition, cadets compete in physical challenges, test their knowledge of aviation and leadership, demonstrate the highest levels of precision and teamwork in posting the colors, and above all, cheer each other on in the spirit of teamwork.

The CA Wing Cadet Competition will be primarily based on CAPP 60-75, but will have some modifications that will be detailed in the Operations Plan, which will be sent out within the next two weeks. The Operations Plan will contain details on registering for the event, including team fees, if applicable.

The planned events are:

– Indoor Posting

– Uniform Inspection & Uniform Build

– Standard Drill (Color Guard & Element)

– Written Exam

For more information, please see Civil Air Patrol Pamphlet 60-75, National Cadet Competition Program Guide (https://www.gocivilairpatrol.com/media/cms/P_6075_8F4556244381A.pdf).

Team escorts email Lt. Col. Michael Samuel to register your team by Friday, 19 April. Lt Col Samuel will send you a registration link to provide team information and complete required documents.

There is no registration fee for the teams (6 cadets and 2 escorts). The Wing is funding this competition, which includes lodging, meals and other associated costs with holding the event. There are no team alternates for the competition, but additional cadets and senior members can attend as observers.

Lodging will be in open-bay barracks. Each one has 20 beds and a bathroom with showers. There will be barracks for Female SMs, Male SMs, Female Cadets, and Male Cadets. Each person must bring their own linens/sleeping bag, pillow, towel and toiletries.

CAP members observing the competition may stay in the barracks and eat meals in the dining facility if there is space available, and the observers will pay for their own meals. I anticipate that there will be space, but I will not be able to confirm final numbers until 1 week prior to the event.

Updated information over the next few weeks will be sent out by email and posted at Upcoming Cadet Programs Events – CAWG Cadet Programs (cawgcadets.org).

Staff Positions

In order for this event to be successful, we need both cadet and senior member volunteers.   We need senior members that can serve as support staff (logistics, safety, public affairs), scorekeepers, judges and marshals.  Cadets are needed for Cadet Adjutant, judges and Cadet Operation Assistants. We will conduct interviews for the Cadet Adjutant position in April.

If you are able to assist, please e-mail the Activity Director, Lt Col Michael Samuel, at michael.samuel@cawgcap.org, with the position(s) you would like to volunteer for and include past cadet competition experience.
